The end is near, but midnight cinema lives on with unbroken freshness and resilience: In 2551.03 – The End, the most wonderful nightmares become terrifyingly true (and vice versa). A man with a monkey mask stumbles through a totalitarian underground future world in search of a lost child. The silent film mixes elements of cyberpunk, expressionism, and dystopian sci-fi horror with an industrial techno score. Here, birth becomes death, man becomes woman, child becomes father, and inside becomes outside. The film is the conclusion of Pfaffenbichler’s 2551 trilogy, but can also be enjoyed in all its glory without any prior knowledge.
