Dreaming of Lions is an absurdist tragicomedy about euthanasia and assisted suicide.
Gilda, a Brazilian immigrant living in Lisbon, has reached the end of the line. A retired high school teacher with a razor-sharp sarcastic
wit, she has one year left to live due to a malignant cancer in her spinal cord. Her only wish is to die while she’s still herself, still has
her dignity and without pain.
However, after four failed suicide attempts, Gilda’s afraid to try again, which leads her to the multinational corporation “Joy
Transition International” that organizes expensive workshops on euthanasia and suicide for terminally ill people.
There she meets Amadeu, a Portuguese introverted funeral agency worker in an apparently similar life situation. But whereas Gilda is
a force of nature, who sees through the world’s lies with her dark humour, Amadeu is a kind, simple, introverted funeral agency
worker.
