The Taste of Apples is Red
In the Druze mountain villages between Syria and Israel, Kamel, a respected leader, must make an almost impossible choice between family and duty when his estranged brother returns from exile to the Golan Heights after 47 years. The Druze are a sect that split from Islam almost a thousand years ago. The Druze, have preserved their independent culture and managed to keep most elements of their religion secret. Although monotheistic, the Druze faith is based on a mixture of Abrahamic religions, Greek philosophers and elements of Eastern beliefs, such as a strong belief in the reincarnation of human souls. The Taste of Apples is Red is one of the first cinematic glimpses into the Druze’s top-secret way of life.
