hanseWasser Sustainability Award

Since 2022, we have placed a special focus on sustainability within our festival.
Together with hanseWasser, the festival management has selected the films from all competition participants in the Humor, Innovation, Bremen Film and German premieres sections that are dedicated to the topic of sustainability – be it satirical, documentary or fictional-metaphysical. Particular attention was paid to the ecological aspects of sustainability in the selection.

In our world, it is becoming increasingly important to address the issues of climate protection, water conservation, sustainable agriculture and species protection if we want to live well together in the future. Our seven contributions (two short films, three medium-length films and two features) focus primarily on the ecological aspect of sustainability, approaching the topic in very different ways and forms: some contributions are animated, others documentary; others bizarre and comical or experimental. But it is precisely in this way that the importance of our future repeatedly comes to the fore and achieves a broad spectrum and visuality in our society.

Ekkehart Siering – Geschäftsführer hanseWasser Bremen

“Sustainability is a responsibility – and it affects us all. That is why it is important that the diverse topics and perspectives of sustainability have an impact on us, that we are sensitized to them, and perhaps even question ourselves and our actions.

For hanseWasser as a wastewater company in Bremen, sustainability is a central focus.

The medium of film is an excellent way to reach people in a sustainable way. That is why we are very pleased to support the Bremen Film Festival again this year. With the “hanseWasser Nachhaltigkeitspreis“,” we honor filmmakers whose works are dedicated to a sustainability theme, or who have made their film production particularly sustainable. A commitment that we are happy to honor with this special prize.

In this spirit, we wish all visitors, participating filmmakers and all those involved to have an exciting film festival and many sustainable cinema experiences.”
