Wonder of the Weser

For the short film award “Wonder of the Weser”, Filmfest Bremen and SV WERDER BREMEN are looking for your cinematic love letter to your favourite green-and-white club.

 

Short, creative, captivating and a little bit different.

 

Take part and show us your view of the club, your devotion to Werder Bremen, its players and the wohninvest Weserstadion or Platz 11 in a maximum of three minutes with your film. Win great cash prizes at Filmfest Bremen 2024. In addition to the cash prizes, there will of course be attention and appreciation for your view of Werder, which we will ensure with a big award ceremony at Theater Bremen, among other things.

 

SV Werder Bremen will be celebrating the club’s legendary 125th anniversary in 2024. The big Werder award ceremony for the short film award will be the last event in a whole series of celebrations and the crowning finale at the theatre on Goetheplatz.

What was your favourite Werder moment? What makes you proud of Werder? What does your neighbourhood look like on match days? Is there any old Super 8 footage in your attic? Show us how Werder fills your life outside of match days. Whether it’s a simple declaration of love, your most emotional moment, a documentary, a comedy or a great drama, or even found archive material. All this told briefly, emotionally, loudly or quietly and, above all, told the way you want it, in three minutes.

 

Awards and Prizes

1st place 3,500 euros – jury award

2nd place 1,500 euros – audience award

3rd place 500 euros – jury award

 

The best films among the submissions will be nominated by a jury. We invite the nominees and their companions to the award ceremony on 13.04.24 at 7 pm at Theater am Goetheplatz. We expect a number of personalities and companions from Werder and its history on this evening to present the final selection and then award prizes to the best films.

Jury

Matthias Brandt

The renowned and multi-award-winning actor has appeared in over 80 film and television productions since 1989, has long been a Werder fan and has been an ambassador for the Green-Whites for several years.

Sara Fazilat

Born in Iran, Sara Fazilat has regularly appeared in front of the camera since 2007 and also works as an author and producer. In 2021, she was awarded the Bavarian Film Prize for Best Young Actress.

Tom Spiess

Born in Bremen and a Werder fan, he was a board member of the German Film Academy from 2007 to 2013 and has worked as a producer at Constantin Film since 2017. He is also a member of the European Film Academy and has been a member of the board of the Producers Alliance since 2014.

Julia Düvelsdorf

She has led the team of fan representatives at SV Werder Bremen for more than a decade. From 2010, she built up the “Fan Culture and Anti-Discrimination” department as a scientific advisor in the German Bundestag and has been coordinating fan work at the Green-Whites for over 13 years.

Arnd Zeigler

He is known to many soccer fans as a presenter, journalist and author, and to Werder fans in particular as the stadium announcer for SV Werder Bremen since 2001. He is an appointed member of the German Academy for Football Culture.

Markus Biereichel

Born in Bremen, he first worked for Radio Bremen before working in Munich as a broadcaster for DSF, Premiere and Sat.1. In 2007, he moved to SV Werder Bremen, where he helped set up the WERDER.TV channel.

The submission period for films for the Werder Bremen Short Film Award “Das Wunder von der Weser”

 

begins on 08.01.2024 and ends on 28.03.2024.

 

During this period, a form will be available at the bottom of this page for submitting films.
In addition to a download link for the film file, the film title and the names of the participants must be entered there.

Important: The file name of the uploaded video file must contain the film title and the name of the director, which must match the name in the application.

The submission should also include details of the director, script, actors, camera, editing, music, sound and any other contributors.

The following file formats and metadata are permitted:

  • Container: MOV or MP4
  • Codec: Apple ProPres 422 or H.264
  • Resolution: 1920×1080 px (Full HD)
  • Frame rate: Interlaced/Progressive
  • Frame rate: 25 fps

The submitted film must not exceed a length of 3 minutes (without credits).

Rights &
Publication

By submitting their film, the filmmakers give their consent to Filmfest Bremen and SV Werder Bremen to show their film free of charge and publicly in the period from April 10-14, 2024 as part of Filmfest Bremen and thereafter for an indefinite period on the online channels of Filmfest Bremen and SV Werder Bremen. Any further commercial use beyond this requires agreement and compensation between the filmmakers and SV Werder Bremen.

For the promotion or presentation of the festival and the Werder Short Film Award, the filmmakers also grant Filmfest Bremen and SV Werder Bremen the provision of excerpts for online, radio and TV exploitation, or make these excerpts available to radio and television stations and online media for reporting. The filmmakers indemnify Filmfest Bremen, SV Werder Bremen and their partners against possible claims by third parties and declare that they are the sole holders of the rights to images, sound and music. Particular attention must be paid to image material from DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga GmbH. Image or audio material of the DFL that is not licensed cannot be shown outside the screening on 13.04.2024. SV Werder Bremen does not provide any DFL material.

The other rights to the films shall remain with the filmmakers; exploitation by the filmmakers is not permitted.
